For a child on the autism spectrum an encounter with police can be overwhelming to the senses.

Flashing lights, loud sirens and big dogs could be very scary and unsettling to them.

Thursday students at the Palm Beach School For Autism we're treated to a sensory-friendly safety event to get them comfortable with noises and activities that might make a child with autism afraid of the police.

Students were also measured, fingerprinted and photographed by the sheriff's office.

The information was given to the parents of the students in the event they have an emergency involving their child.
